Reviving and managing lands

Regrow land from conventional farming to natural farming

During our adventure in Japan we decided to buy an abandoned house with 2 fields and regenerate them.

We based our approached and management on researched made by M. Masanobu Fukuoka, Permaculture and other approached and decided to adapt his advices to our case.

We used the following principles:

  • Every land is unique and has a unique life in itself, unique exposure to sun, wind, rain and other natural element. Therefore there is no methodology that can fit all. Observe it and adapt through trials and errors.

  • No tilling as it will conserve micro-organism and fungus that help move nutrient and work with your trees or vegetable. Also tilling is, on top of killing life from your soil, it makes the land fragile to erosion, landslide and do not retain much water compare to non tilling one.

  • Use the maximum of heirloom seeds like the one sold in cooperative like Kokopelli.

  • Grow the more native plants possible.

  • Grow from seed whenever possible.

  • Observe the weed growing at the same time than your crop to use it as bait or help.

  • Vary your plantation in the same place every year.

  • Use companion planting.

  • Do not produce waste that cannot recycle entirely.

  • No artificial fertilizer, No pesticide.

  • No machinery.

  • Use weeds or cover crops to keep the soil strong, moist and fertile during the year.

  • Each element should have more than I function. Multiuse.

  • Each function in your field should be backed up by more than one element. Multi-backup.

  • Integrate instead of separate.

  • Do intervene the minimum for the system to be self-sustain. Minimum effort. Nature doesn´t need us to manage.

Regenerative Agriculture

My Experience
Before (2021)

The land had few grass and the remaining trees were maintained with fertilizers

Now (2025)
